A message I distributed earlier today

It is a sad day in America. We must pray and get involved. It will not go away just by simply wishing it so.

If this message offends you, please let me know and I will gladly delete your name from my distribution list.

A Page From History

Norman Mattoon Thomas (November 20, 1884 to December 19, 1968) was a leading
American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the
Socialist Party of America.

The Socialist Party candidate for President of the U.S., Norman Thomas, said
this in a 1944 speech:

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the
name of "liberalism," they will adopt every fragment of the socialist
program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing
how it happened.! "
He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for
the Socialist Party. The Democrat Party has adopted our platform."
****

"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money."

~~Margaret Thatcher

Here is a comment I received from one E-Mail reader.

Interresting info. I never heard of him before but did do some quick research on This Presbyterian Minister. His first calling was and always was to follow Jesus Christ and as such was a CO in WW I. He is a midwesterner from Ohio. He was ordained in 1911and his father was also a preacher.
I could not find anywhere where he ever staed what you qoted. Remember, in 1944 (when you say he was saying this} The democratic party was the Conservative party and he Republican arty was the liberal party of Lincoln. It changed over the years to boh sides taking up the others causes but looking at this guys history, he was against Communism type of socialism and followed the Jesus type of socialism. He also was an advocate of farmers being able to survive in their businesses. He primary draw to the Socialist Party back then was his Conscientious Objector position for thse objecting to war on a religious basis.
He also suppored the war efforts in WWII after Pearl Harbor.

Norman Thomas, 1962
Thomas was one of the few public figures to oppose the internment of Japanese Americans following the attack on Pearl Harbor. Thomas accused the ACLU of "dereliction of duty" when the organization supported the internment. Thomas also campaigned against racial segregation, environmental depletion, anti-labor laws and practices, and in favor of opening the United States to Jewish victims of Nazi persecution in the 1930s.

As a Liberal Conservative myself, I would endorse some things he was for and object to others. My Guide as a conservative is Financial driven and Constitutional basis. My Liberal side is my faith in Jesus Christ.
I once was a staunch Republican but found they talked one way and did another. I changed to the democrat side in Clintons second term, returned to the Republican side for W Bush, and Now I would never ever vote for another Republican, Ever.... Now I understand which party really follows our Constitution First and my God.

Here is my response to the comment:

The closest thing I quickly found on the internet was this: “The difference between Democrats and Republicans is: Democrats have accepted some ideas of Socialism cheerfully, while Republicans have accepted them reluctantly”
Regardless of who said what, the fact is that we were not founded as a Socialist Nation. The term Democrat and Republican goes back to the basic tenants of the Constitution. We were founded as a Constitutional Republic and NOT a Democracy. That means we are SUPPOSED TO BE governed by laws and not by the whims of men. Lay that concept up beside what you see now. THUS MY COMMENT “It is a sad day in America. We must pray and get involved. It will not go away just by simply wishing it so.”
It is not a Republican or Democrat issue, it is a Constitutional issue. Watering down Socialism by calling it “Christian Socialism” it a total sham. You can be kind and benevolent without being a Socialist. You can be a conscientious objector without being a Socialist. Socialism is to politics what Marijuana is to drugs. It is the first step to communism no matter how you slice it or dice it. How far have we traveled down that road?
BTW: Being a minister of the Gospel does not buy him ANY immunity to criticism for his ANTI- CONSTITUTIONAL views.
In my opinion there is no such thing as a Liberal Conservative. That would be tantamount to calling oneself a Black White person or a Mexican American. You cannot hold citizenship in two countries or have two skin colors. All of us are judged by the people we affiliate with and the views they espouse. That is why I said to let me know if you are offended by my views. I don’t want anyone to be judged amiss because of their association with me.
Regardless of all that rhetoric,,, Jesus is RIGHT and we are wrong if we disagree with Him. End of story.
